What Is Bow Hunting?

You must have probably heard about bow hunting and how it is fast gaining popularity as a form of a hobby and recreation especially these days. What is it really and why are so many people going gaga over it? In definition, bow hunting is an activity or a practice wherein game animals are hunted and killed using skills and techniques in archery. In general, archery has been usually used in many cultures that use bow. Many hunters attest that it is the best way to kill a game as it does not produce distracting sound and bullet traces as in gun-hunting. A hunter who is into bow hunting may shoot a target animal within a short range of about 20 to 30 yards. In comparison, a rifle hunter could need to shoot a target within a range of about 200 yards. Thus, there is a great difference in distance. It may depend on individual ability, the bow setup, the weather, and the target animal. Rifle hunting could also be more precise, but the use of bows could be more fun and more challenging, making it an ideal recreational and leisure activity. Before you go bow hunting, you should first consider the cultural and legal provisions of doing the activity in the area. For instance, this form of hunting is strictly prohibited in many European countries, including Ireland, the United Kingdom, and Germany. In the United States, it could be under regulation of different states. Such regulations usually address significant issues like the season, the hunting unit, and the type of animal (species). In most cases, there is a designated special archery season for hunting as a means to lower or eliminate any interference from any rifle hunter. Minimum draw weight is required for hunting bigger game species. What are needed to get into bow hunting? Of course, you need to have basic and important tools--- bow and arrow. You need not invest in the most expensive and most sophisticated brands and models. Functionality is more than anything. Then, when you have the tools, you must have the necessary skills. You need to know how to play archery by heart to be able to do well in the activity. It is not a requirement to be an excellent archer, but it logically would help a lot if you are great in the activity. It could be hard hitting the target animals.
